Incredibly proud to have the multi-talented Jenn here with gorgeous drawings and a text I could drown in.
After a day spent soaking up and reveling in the bright glories of daylight —my eager eyes bouncing distractedly through the noise of light, shadow, color, shape, texture, and pattern— it is a relief to see the muted, hushed night coming on. I return to her like a wanderer returning home, carrying in my soul the gifts daylight has revealed to me. I greet gentle night with joy and open arms as she slowly begins her own sojourn, trailing her velvety blanket of stars and darkness across the drowsy sky. No longer feeling dull, I gather all of my accumulated solar energy and give it to the night, brightening and coming to life under her soft, mysterious gaze. In quiet supplication, my dark companion and I beg Athena to hold back the sun just as she did for Odysseus and Penelope. One more hour, kind goddess, we must examine the treasures I laid by in the daylight— for they, too, come to life in the nightlight. To which I can only add A lamp is the herald of twilight turning into night. And during the night, it gently spreads a soft light on lovers new and old. Until the morrow comes and the light recedes into the shadows for the day until it’s time to shine again. ‘Ya Leyli’… My Night, in every sense of the word.
Joyce, this is so wonderful, thank you from the bottom of my heart, truly. It was so fun collaborating with you and learning we share a lot of the same interests. Thank you for the inspiration and the invite to combine forces ❤️
Goodness you two! My heart is exploding and my eyes are wet! Words and art together in this collaboration are exquisite ✨
I immediately saw the old round suction light in my lanai that the Christmas lights are on in honor of my dad. Light of eternal hope. Shaped so much like your art Jenn. I am blown away. Thank you both so much for this. ox
